Readers, if you haven't learned by now, I am a big snacker. I always have been, always will be and my one vice is chips. I can not get enough of any kind of chip. I am always looking for healthier alternatives than the normal Lays greased potato chip. (Thinking about all that oil on my hands after eating just a few right now is seriously turning my stomach!)
It's not that the chips don't taste good, it's that they aren't good for me! I tend to go for healthier things when I can get it and I recently had the opportunity to sample some chips from
Food Should Taste Good!
All of our chip varieties are free of cholesterol, preservatives and trans fat, and do not use genetically modified ingredients (GMOs). They are also certified Kosher and Gluten Free, lower in sodium, and are a good source of dietary fiber. We currently have 15 flavors in our 5.5oz line: Multigrain, Sweet Potato, Olive, Jalapeño, Lime, Cantina, The Works!, Chocolate, Blue Corn, Cheddar, White Cheddar, Toasted Sesame, Hemp, Jalapeño with Cheddar, and Kettle Corn. As well as a brand new line of Kettle Cooked Sweet Potato Chips with 4 classic flavors: Original, Barbeque, Salt & Pepper, and Salt & Vinegar.
I love their website, first off! It's so easy to navigate and I like that the chips are large enough for me to see right off the bat. The packaging of the chips itself is pleasing to the eye and makes me intrigued to purchase from them.
I had a hard time choosing a few to sample but I went with things my husband and I would normally consume from somewhere else. I tend to like to do versus (VS) when it comes to the things I love and new things and this is exactly what I chose to do this time, as well.
I went with
Cheddar,
Barbecue,
Toasted Sesame,
White Corn Dipping and of course,
Chocolate.
I started with the Chocolate ones because I couldn't help myself. I am a chocolate lover. The chip was crispy with a nice crunch and salt to chocolate ratio. If you expect to bite into these and eat a chocolate Hershey's bar, you're sadly mistaken. It is not supposed to be that rich but rich enough to taste the chocolate and know it's still a chip. To me, it was perfect. It gave new meaning to the term "chocolate chip." The website recommends crumbling these on top of vanilla ice cream and I did just that. It was delicious this way, as it is just by itself.
The White Corn Dipping ones I chose for my husband because he is a huge Tortilla Chip lover. That's really the only kind of chip he will eat, so if I can find one close enough to it and he eats it, I feel like a winner.
He happened to have his favorite Black Bean Salsa in the kitchen so he immediately broke that out and dunked his first chip in. He's overly dramatic, of course, so he chewed a bit and looked "lost in thought" while really just holding back his excitement. He really enjoyed the chip and said while it wasn't "exactly" (well, duh) like a tortilla chip, he could see himself eating these again.
They aren't bland and aren't overly salted. They are just right for him and like some chips tend to be, they aren't too thick to want to eat.
I really loved the Cheddar, though. I have to be honest here; I hate fake cheese. I stay away from all these that could possibly have that fake cheese taste, as well. I was a bit scared that the cheese powder on these would taste odd because all of their chips are all natural and made gluten free.
I was very pleasantly surprised to bite into one of these and find myself pretty much lost in the bag. There was no fake cheese taste and the chips had just enough cheddar powder on them. I ate almost half the bag right away!
Along with the Cheddar, I had doubts of the Barbecue tasting like Barbecue. I was again surprised to be able to taste just that and not have to guess if it was or wasn't Barbecue. They have molasses and tomatoes blended with natural spices in them. I could taste the smokiness of the chips as if they were made in the same area as Lays chips are but these didn't require a napkin for all that oil on my fingers afterwards!
And lastly, I sampled the Toasted Sesame chips. These were close to being my favorite. It was a crunchy chip and toasted just perfectly. There really was no going wrong with these and they were great dipped in corn & black bean salsa.
So overall, I really give the Food Should Taste Great company a huge thumbs up. They take pride and care from the products they make and that really shows. There are so many other great flavors such as;
Kettle Corn,
Salt and Vinegar,
Multigrain and more!
